About Stambar Kompagniet

A new player on the Danish bar scene: Stambar Kompagniet brings together some of the country’s most experienced industry figures.

Prominent profiles from the Danish music, bar, and hospitality world are joining forces in a new collective: Stambar Kompagniet.

Behind the company are Morten Varano (Rust), Bo Sørensen (Masken, Jailhouse) and Michael Hvolgaard Andersen (Zeppelin Rock Bar, Target Group). Long-time regular and well-known nightlife figure Mads Christian Friis has also found his way into the picture.

Together, they represent decades of experience across nightlife, music, and culture — and share an ambition to create an independent alternative to the commercial bar industry in Denmark.

“We want to run bars with personality, authenticity, and edge — places where you can feel that real people stand behind them, not corporations. Stambar Kompagniet is a community, not a chain,” says Morten Varano.

Under the Stambar Kompagniet umbrella, you’ll already find a range of popular and diverse venues, several of which are run in collaboration with other cultural partners, including the music label Crunchy Frog.

“We share a fundamental love for classic pubs, vibrant bars, and the places where you instantly feel at home. At the same time, we want to raise the bar for quality and culture in the bar scene,” adds Michael Hvolgaard Andersen.

Stambar Kompagniet sees itself as an independent alternative to the large, uniform bar groups — a refuge for guests, staff, and creative partners, where presence and identity matter more than concepts and KPIs.

“We believe that diversity and character are what keep Copenhagen and Denmark exciting. Our goal isn’t to own the city — but to help give it soul,” says Bo Sørensen.
